This weekend is more about quality than quantity for Mike Stidham, as half of the six runners he’s preparing to saddle are in stake races.
At Arlington Saturday, Every Way is gunning for her first graded stake victory in the Grade III Modesty Handicap – a $200,000 race over one and three sixteenth miles for fillies and mares. Every Way has a tough task. Fourteen horses are set to line up, and she’s an early morning line 15/1 shot. James Graham takes the mount.
Over at Canterbury Park, Stidham fires two shots at the Lady Canterbury Stakes – a $100,000 race over a mile for fillies and mares. Abundantly Clear is having her first attempt at black-type glory, having won a nice allowance at Arlington last time out. Jockey Ry Eikleberry rides. I Dazzle, on the other hand, is a seasoned veteran of the stake circuit – and she’s the slightly more fancied of the two, currently trading at 6/1 on the morning line. Jockey Dean Butler takes the mount.
On Saturday’s undercard, Zubi Zubi Zu is an intended runner, while Gumdrop and Casting are scheduled to run at Arlington Sunday.
Check back in again next week for a round-up of all the weekend action.
