I Dazzle dazzles in Louisiana

Another day, another stake win for Mike Stidham as I Dazzle stormed back to form in tenacious fashion over the weekend – one of two victories for the stable.

I Dazzle was claiming her second black-type victory for Mike Stidham when claiming the Louisiana Cup Distaff Stakes at Louisiana Downs on Saturday, and with it a tidy pot worth $75,000. Given a peach of a ride by jockey Jamie Theriot, I Dazzle stalked the leaders for the first half of the race before Theriot produced his mount at the top of the stretch, grabbing the lead and fending off persistent challengers one-by-one to pass the post a neck to the good.

Owned by a partnership comprising The Farm on 4 LLC, Brent Gasaway and Mike Stidham, I Dazzle was recording her third win for Stidham and her third stake victory in total. Her overall earnings have now reached $336,937 – and going by Saturday’s performance, few would bet against her adding to that handsome total.

Over at Del Mar, Her Emmynency made a sparkling debut to suggest that she might be yet another quality filly to look forward to as the rest of the season unfolds.

As is typical of most Stidham two-year-olds, Her Emmynency was sharp out of the gates, jockey Jo Talamo on board, and after sitting on the heels of the leaders, she took the lead at the top of the stretch before gradually pulling away from the rest of her rivals to record a rather comfortable looking two-and-three-quarter length victory at the wire.

This daughter of Successful Appeal is owned by Dawn and Ike Thrash, and with such a taking performance on her racecourse debut, one would be confident that she will hold her own when stepped up into tougher company on her next outing.

Tomorrow, Masquerade runs at Presque Isle Downs, while Stidham has five go to post at Arlington Thursday: Ike Walker, Alltheleavesrbrown, Gumdrop, Gossip Mill and Follow the Kitten.

Check back in again next week for a look ahead to the weekend action.
