A one-two finish in the first race at Arlington yesterday sets Mike Stidham’s weekend up nicely, his flagship runner being Every Way in a Grade II at Del Mar.
Every Way is one of nine runners in the Grade II John C. Mabee Stakes at Del Mar tomorrow – a $250,000 race run over one and one eight miles. Stidham’s four-year-old filly by City Zip has been a model of consistency all season, winning twice already as well as two second place finishes in the Jersey Lilly Stakes and the Minnesota H. B. P. A. Distaff Stakes. Nevertheless, Every Way has her work cut out in a race chock-full of talent. Jockey Joe Talamo takes the mount.
Stidham’s Arlington runners tomorrow comprise Helen Kathleen, Casting and Voluptuous. Stormdriver is Stidham’s sole representative at Indiana Grand Race Course, as is Hit Girl at Del Mar.
Yesterday, Ike Walker led home Alltheleavesrbrown for a tremendous one-two finish for the stable at Arlington yesterday. Having made-all for nearly the whole race, Ike Walker trounced the field by seven and one-quarter lengths, with Alltheleavesrbrown a further two lengths ahead of the next horse home.
Owned by Dawn and Ike Thrash, Ike Walker was stepping up markedly on his debut run when he finished fourth. And this two-year-old by Bellamy Road looks one who will continue to improve again with time and experience.
Check back again next week for a round-up of the weekend action.
