Hubbala Hubbala finally earned a much deserved win picture yesterday when breaking her maiden for Mike Stidham in gritty fashion at Arlington.
What is more, Hubbala Hubbala did it in the manner of a dyed-in-the-wool Stidham runner – out of the gates quicker than a gazelle and never headed thereafter. Hubbala Hubbala kicked clear for home at the top of the stretch only to see her healthy lead diminish as the wire approached. When Hubbala Hubbala passed the wire under jockey Maria Thornton, there was barely a flared nostril between her and the runner-up, No More Apples – a slender hair’s width that meant significantly more to winning owners Feel The Thunder Stable.
A three-year-old daughter of Colonal John, Hubbala Hubbala had before yesterday been placed four times in a six-race career, and having been introduced to the winner’s enclosure this once, she can now expect to make another return trip in the near future.
Looking to the week ahead, Stidham has Zubi Zubi Zu entered at Kentucky Downs Wednesday. On Thursday at Arlington, it’s the turn of Rockabye Barry and Amabile. A day later at the Arlington track, Stormdriver, Casting and Bobblehead hold entries, while Inavanti holds an entry at Churchill Downs.
