Weekend update

Stormdriver’s dogged win today at Arlington on his debut performance for Mike Stidham sets the stable up nicely for the weekend, with the trainer going bi-coastal in his pursuit for more winners.

Swift out of the gates under Emmanuel Esquivel, Stormdriver was settled back off the pace for the first half of the race. Esquivel then made his move steady and wide down the stretch before the pair surged past the wire a neck too good for the runner-up, Achaemenes.

Claimed last time out by Stidham at Indiana Grand Racecourse, Stormdriver–a four-year-old son of Discreet Cat–boasts a handy resume, having landed the Charles Taylor Derby at Albuquerque a little over a year ago. He’s also been thrown in at graded stake level a number of times, and owner Mark Breen looks to have acquired a fine stable mate for one his brightest talents, Jessica’s Star.

Looking to the weekend ahead, tomorrow at Arlington, Alltheleavesrbrown and Squatty are scheduled to run, while a day later it’s the turn of Holiday Touch, Forest Elf, Go Doug Go and Swift Sword.

Over on the opposite side of the country, Song To You is Stidham’s sole representative at Los Alamitos.

Check back in again next week for a round-up of the weekend action.
