If I Ever, Profluent and Katie’s Eyes book-ended the turn of the New Year for Mike Stidham with a trifecta of nice wins at Fair Grounds, but after something of a hectic holiday season, Stidham gets to enjoy a well-earned breather with only one runner scheduled over the weekend.
On Monday, If I Ever brought his victory tally to a tidy two-from-four with a rattling stretch run under jockey James Graham. Owned by Paul O’Reilly and Stidham himself, If I Ever was nearer last than first for much of the trip, but once straightened out and with the winning post in sight, the son of Nobiz Like Showbiz showed a tremendously likable attitude to reel in the eventual runnner-up Good Quality.
Profluent got 2015 off to a fine start when he enjoyed a first win on his first start for Stidham on the first day of the New Year. Despite a bit of early race argy-bargy, James Graham got his mount organized mid-pack, grasping the lead well within the final furlong before stretching clear to pass the post one-and-a-half-lengths clear of the next home. Owners DARRS, Inc. should have a lot of fun with this four-year-old son of Purim over the next few weeks and months.
Another enjoying her first start for the barn, Katie’s Eyes returned after a six-month break this afternoon with a barn-storming performance under jockey Florent Geroux. Owned by Dawn and Ike Thrash and Janet and Sam Alley, Katie’s Eyes passed the post an eased-down four-and-a-half lengths to the good, and this stake race placed daughter of Leroidesanimaux is yet another exciting prospect for the stable.
The lone Stidham runner at Fair Grounds this weekend is liberty Bond who lines up in the 7th on Sunday. And don’t forget to check back in again next week for the next stable update.
