Pinch, punch, first of the month…

March is all but over, and the start of April coincides with the start of the new meet at Keeneland where the Stidham barn is headed en route to Arlington for its annual summer residency.

Part of Stidham’s diaspora will include his two Floridian competitors from the weekend, Istanford and Notte d’Oro. And while neither were able to land a blow in their respective races, Stidham is pleased to report that they have both come out of their races in fine fettle, ready to do battle once again.

Of course, the turn of the month also means that Fair Grounds is over for another year, and yet again, the Stidham barn has proven a force to be reckoned with down in good ol’ Louisiana.

Stidham finished the meet with $661,175 in the piggy bank and 19 wins on the board, his runners finishing in the first three 45% of the time. What makes this achievement all the more remarkable is that Stidham was without many of his big guns for much of the meet – a point that bodes well for the summer when the majority of his big name draws will be back in full service.

Then there’s the little matter of his two-year-olds: word from the barn is that this year’s is one of his strongest batches yet.

As for runners this week, the likable Ike Walker lines up at Oaklawn Park tomorrow.

Don’t forget to check back in again later this week.
