Couldn’t catch Katie!

Keeneland 2015 burst awake in no uncertain fashion for the Stidham stable after the sensational victory of Katie’s Eyes in the $100,000 Giant’s Causeway Stakes – one of two weekend victories for the stable from only two runners.

Dawn and Ike Thrash and Janet and Sam Alley’s four-year-old daughter of Leroidesanimaux was given a peach of a ride by Florent Geroux, who tracked the leaders into the straight before launching an irresistible bid for glory down the straight. Together, they passed the post two-and-a-half lengths to the good, beating a nice field of top-class sprinters in the process.

This victory for Katie’s Eyes was her third in a row this season, and she remains unbeaten since joining the Stidham barn the latter part of last year.

As for future engagements, Stidham is waiting to see how the land lies. In the aftermath of the great win, he told Keeneland Barn Notes:

“We’re going to look around,” he said. “With the 5½-furlong turf races that I think she’s best at, you kinda have to move around, ship around for them. We’ll go up to Arlington and look around. We’ll nominate her in a lot of different spots and pick out the best one.”

A day later, Kingston Terrace secured a second win of 2015 at Hawthorne. Owned by Dare to Dream Stable LLC (Michael Faber), and ridden by Emmanuel Esquivel, Kingston Terrace never looked in trouble for one second as she strolled to a five length victory at the wire.

Check back in again later this week for a look ahead to the weekend and a update on some stable stars.
