Dahlia was a Hall of Fame legend who famously won big races all over the globe, and tomorrow at Pimlico, Stidham’s fine standard-bearer Istanford is bidding to add to her own little slice of immortality in a race named in the great mare’s honor.
One of thirteen scheduled to line up in the $100,000 Dahlia Stakes over a mile on the turf, Istanford is a Morning Line 4-1 shot to kick-start her 2015 campaign under jockey Victor Carrasco.
Istanford ran a great race on her first run of the season, only for things to go against her in a hot-looking Grade II at Gulfstream Park last time out. That run can be ignored, however, and word from the barn is that Istanford is training like a winner at present.
Stidham sure has a busy weekend ahead of him. Tomorrow at Hawthorne Stidham’s set to run three: Aftermarketspoiler, Gucci Brown and Tocqueville. The day after, it’s the turn of Hadrian and Kids Rule.
Over at Keeneland tomorrow, Rebel Rebel and Warriorscmoutoplay both line up at the Kentucky track.
I’m afraid that the stable update promised the end of this week has been pushed back to the start of next – but don’t worry, it’ll prove worth the wait for fans of the barn!
