Wow! Mike Stidham enjoyed a stunning Sunday with a near impeccable three winners from only four runners at Arlington, Thestarvingartist, Zipessa and Rikco Man all delivering the goods.
Thestarvingartist, owned by The Farm on 4 LLC and Brent Gasaway, was headed only after the gates opened, quickly regaining the lead before powering to a neck win at the wire under jockey Florent Geroux. This was Thestarvingartist’s second win on the bounce and third overall.
Perhaps the highlight of the afternoon was the win of Empyrean Stable’s Zipessa on her racecourse bow, who couldn’t have been more impressive if she had passed the wire, stopped and casually reapplied her makeup.
Plum last at the start, Zipessa under a cool ride by Mitchell Murrill gradually crept closer and closer until at the top of the straight he unleashed his mount for a barnstorming six-and-three-quarter length victory – a win that reeked of stake race potential.
The third win on the card for Stidham came via Rikco Man – another to break his maiden yesterday afternoon. With a very professional performance under jockey Mitchell Murrill, Good Stuff Stable’s son of Harlen’s Holiday also looks to have a bright future ahead.
Looking forward, Stidham has Fantasize in at Indiana Grand Race Course tomorrow, La Luna Rouge at Churchill Downs Thursday and Lewis Vale at Arlington Friday.
Check back in again later this week for a weekend preview.
