Lollipop a sweet start to the New Year

Lollipop started the New Year for the Mike Stidham stable in the best manner possible when he gamely held on for victory in the $20,000 claimer on the first day of racing at Fair Grounds in 2014.

Always racing handily, Lollipop was brought to dispute the pace early on. And after dueling with the pacemakers around the turn and at the top of the stretch, he knuckled down grimly under James Graham to deny Betsy’s Boy by three quarters of a length at the wire. This was Lollipop’s second win for Stidham, and this Argentinian import looks poised to pick up more races during the meet.

Looking to the week ahead, Stidham has four runners tomorrow: Blue Y Gold, A Noble Calling, Wahine Bling and Gossip Mill. On the friday, he’s set to saddle Brown Eyes Blue in the $75,000 Pan Zareta Stakes. Astronomer and Gleam of Hope are entered on the undercard.

Check back in again later this week for a look ahead at the weekend action.
