Arch rivalries heat up the weekend

First came the arch rivalries this weekend at Wimbledon between Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, then Serena Williams and her latest hapless victim, then came Stidham’s very own Arch Rivalry, who made quite the impression to break his maiden at Arlington yesterday.

Twin Creeks Racing Stables’ three-year-old son of Arch was a distant 10th on his debut at Churchill Downs last year, but time has obviously been kind to this exciting young colt, and he looked a different proposition entirely when breaking sharply from the gates to lead nearly all the way before recording a four-and-three-quarters length victory at the wire. Jockey Mitchell Murrill was in the saddle.

It was so nearly a weekend to remember for Twin Creeks Racing Stables. One day earlier, their Notte d’Oro finished a fabulous second in the Lady Canterbury Stakes, earning yet even more black type along the way. This talented daughter of Medaglia d’Oro is surely overdue another visit to the winner’s circle judging by this fine effort.

As to the week ahead, it’s the start of Del Mar baby!

On Wednesday, Ultimate Reward represents the stable at Prairie Meadows. On Thursday, Infinite Magic lines up at Del Mar, Pinnacle Peak’s at Prairie Meadows, while Willisburg stays at Arlington. On Friday, Stidham runs two at Del Mar: D. Shifflett and Zipessa.

Don’t forget to check back in again later this week for a preview of a very exciting weekend of racing!
