Candy Cate was a sweet treat for the Stidham barn yesterday, when breaking her maiden at Prairie Meadows.
After a string of second place finishes, Candy Cate finally got her head in front where it mattered under jockey Alex Canchari. And boy, did she do it in style, leading from start to finish to streak past the post six-and-a-half lengths too good for owners Twin Creeks Racing Stables.
With this confidence booster under her belt, Candy Cate can move onwards and upwards from here.
As to this weekend, there may not be any tasty stake race action to capture the imagination, but there’s still plenty for fans of the barn to savor.
Veter lines up at Arlington today, while the doughty Ike Walker struts his stuff over at Del Mar. Tomorrow, Stidham sends out General Election and Compass Stone at the Chicago track. Tocqueville lines up at Ellis Park.
Don’t forget to catch the weekend roundup early next week.
