Wake the Dawn put on a commanding performance to break her maiden at Arlington yesterday, setting up a potentially lucrative weekend of action for the Stidham barn.
Dawn and Ike Thrash’s two-year-old daughter of Candy Ride was having only her third run, but showed a nicely professional attitude to draw away from the field in the final furlong to win cosily by a length and three-quarters. Wake the Dawn looks the type to progress with age.
Looking to the weekend ahead, Toutsie Rules heads a busy few days for the Stidham barn, when she lines up in today’s grade III Charles Town Oaks Stakes. One of six to go to post in the $350,000 race over seven furlongs, Toutsie Rules is looking to get her 2015 season back on track under J.D. Acosta, after she went through 2014 unbeaten.
Ground Transport, one of Stidham’s standard bearers, lines up in the Bayern Stakes at Parx Racing today – a $150,000 race over one mile and one sixteenth. A multiple-stake winner, Ground Transport had his seasonal debut in July, and he should strip much fitter this time round under under jockey Florent Geroux.
Elsewhere over the weekend: Tsunami Girl and Skipping go to post at Arlington. Tiger Paw flies the Stidham banner at Kentucky Downs. While Aftermarketspoiler heads to Laurel Park.
Tomorrow, Dreams on Parade and Follow the Kitten line up at Laurel Park, while Heart Stopper is entered at Parx Racing.
