There’s stake-race action galore over the weekend for fans of the barn, with not one but three black-type performers in action.
Top of the list is Pinnacle Peak, who lines up in the $500,000 Grade I Claiborne Breeders’ Futurity Stakes at Keeneland today. Pinnacle Peak, a two-year-old son of Yes It’s True, finished third in the Sapling Stakes last time out, and must step up on that effort to figure in today’s race. Still lightly raced, however, he faces ten other rivals today, and he has the inimitable services of Victor Espinoza in the saddle.
On the Keeneland undercard, the exciting Leigh Court lines up in the Grade II Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes – a race worth $250,000 over six furlongs. Since joining the Stidham stable the end of last year, Leigh Court has finished second in two very nice races – the Grade II Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes, and the Grade III Royal North Stakes. She faces another seven rivals today, and is a 3-1 shot on the Morning Line to prevail under Victor Espinoza.
Tomorrow at Keeneland, Tequila Joe goes for gold in the Grade III Dixiana Bourbon Stakes – a race worth $250,000 and run over one and one sixteenth miles. Tequila Joe, a two-year-old son of Stormy Atlantic, has an impeccable record of one run for one win to maintain – the result of an impressive victory at Del Mar. Tequila Joe is a 12-1 shot on the Morning Line to prevail in the Dixiana Bourbon Stakes under Espinoza.
As for the other weekend runners:
Hawthorne today: Colour Party, Tocqueville and Clearly See. On the Keeneland undercard, Stidham sends out Annie’s Curls and Yum Yum. While Compass Stone and Trend line up at Laurel Park.
Stardom Found lines up tomorrow on the Keeneland undercard, while Siralen flies the Stidham banner alone at Laurel Park.
