The Stidham stable has set up shop in its usual berth at Fair Grounds, and hopes are high that the Louisiana racetrack will prove a happy hunting ground once again.
The meet starts next Thursday, and the Stidham barn has a few fresh faces this year.
“We’re regrouping with a bunch of nice new horses,” said Stidham, at the end of a busy morning, recently. “And we’re gearing up for another successful meet.”
Stidham is shipping over to Fair Grounds the turf horses currently stabled at Laurel Park. But some Stidham runners will remain at Laurel Park, with the intention of maintaining a presence on the East Coast there all year round.
We also have news on a number of stable stars:
Zipessa and Leigh Court: these two flying fillies have enjoyed a little R&R recently, but are poised to return to training very soon. Both will be trained with a Spring campaign in mind.
The Zip Zip Man: also poised to return to training very soon.
D. Shifflett: this exciting young horse will be entered for an allowance on November 22, as a prep for the $50,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes on December 19.
Notte d’Oro: this multiple stake winning daughter of Medaglia d’Oro recently sold for $450,000 at Fasig Tipton. Congratulations to well-deserving owners Twin Creeks Racing Stables.
Stellaris: herself a stake-placed runner (including a second in the Grade I Del Mar Oaks), Stellaris sold for $110,000 at Keeneland for owners Tom Van Meter and Stidham.
As to the week ahead, Stidham has two runners tomorrow, one at at Hawthorne:
Skirts On Fire – Race 2, Claiming $15,000
And one at Laurel Park
Approximator – Race 1, Claiming $35,000
