Mike Stidham bids to say a fond farewell to a magnificent 2015 with a last ditch effort for yet more black type!
But before we look forward, let’s take a glance back at what proved a sensational weekend for the stable, topped by Fila Primera’s victory in the Pago Hop Stakes on Saturday. Settled just off the pace by jockey Jose Valdivia, Fila Primera flew down the straight to claim a length victory at the wire.
This win made it two-out-of-two for Fila Primera since she joined the Stidham stable. The three-year-old daughter of War Front, owned by Cobra Farm and Gary Vandeweghe, was winless in four starts prior to making the move. And she’s yet another shining advertisement (like one was ever needed) of Stidham’s rare abilities with horses of the fairer sex.
Fila Primera wasn’t the only Stidham gold medalist this weekend. Tsunami Girl did the honors on Sunday for owners DARRS, Inc. And this two-year-old daughter of Exchange Rate was shrugging off her maiden tag when scooting clear of the chasing pack to record a two-and-three-quarter length victory under Mitchell Murrill.
Now to New Year’s Eve!
Stidham has Carlientita with jockey Patrick Valenzuela on board entered in the Louisiana Futurity, worth $96,970. Nine are scheduled to start, and the early Morning Line place the two-year-old daughter of Custom for Carlos as a 6-1 shot.
Here are the other Stidham entries on the last day of the year:
General Election – Race 4, Starter Optional Claiming $10,000
Arch Rivalry – Race 5, Allowance Optional Claiming $17,500
