The Stidham stable is holding it’s breath on the morning of what could prove an explosive weekend of stake race success for the barn.
Today at Fair Grounds:
First up is Jessica’s Star, who lines up in the Grade III $125,000 Mineshaft Stakes this afternoon. One of five entered and with Florent Geroux aboard, Jessica’s Star, past winner of the Grade III Iowa Derby, is a 10-1 shot to make his first start since June a winning one.
Winner of the Pago Hop Stakes at Fair Grounds the end of last year, Fila Primera is one of ten to go to post in the Daisy Devine Stakes this afternoon. Ridden by Jose Valdivia Jr., Fila Primera is an 8-1 shot on the Morning Line to claim the $60,000 prize.
In the next race, Shaken seeks to cement an awe-inspiring debut win by picking up the Grade II Rachel Alexandra Stakes worth a tidy $200,000, on only her second ever start. Ridden by Brian Hernandez, Shaken faces a tough field of exciting fillies, but her debut victory couldn’t have been more auspicious, and she’s a 12-1 shot on the Morning Line to continue her swift upward curve.
Today at Oaklawn Park:
Winner of the Jostle Stakes last year, Warriorscmoutoplay is one of 11 to go to post in the $100,000 Spring Fever Stakes. While she hasn’t run since July of last year, Warriorscmoutoplay has been working well, and is an 8-1 shot to provide Stidham and jockey Corey Nakatani with a nice victory.
As for the form of the stable, it simply couldn’t roast any hotter at present, and Bayago provided owner William E Kanter with a tidy victory yesterday at Fair Grounds. Nearer last than first for the first portion of the race, Bayago picked up down the stretch nicely to forge a three-and-a-half-length victory under Florent Geroux.
