Weekend update

After a week of relative peace and quiet, the Stidham barn is refreshed, restored, and ready to consolidate its position at the head of the trainers’s table at Fair Grounds, with a piggy bank bulging over with $888,880 earned already.

One potential star of the show is Jessica’s Star, who’s one of ten to line up in the $100,000 Maxxam Gold Cup Stakes at Sam Houston today. Past winner of the Grade III Iowa Derby and Jim Rasmussen Memorial Stakes, Jessica’s Star hasn’t run since last June, and is a 10-1 shot to prevail under jockey Patrick Valenzuela.

Back at Fair Grounds, Gotsomemojo is one of ten to go to post in the $50,000 Black Gold Overnight Stakes. This three-year-old son of Paddy O’Prado is looking for his first slice of black type, and Stidham has found a good opening here – Gotsomemojo is a 10-1 shot under jockey Mitchell Murrill.
