We’re down to the final week of Fair Ground’s current winter meet, and guess who’s still the leader of the pack?
With $1,114,200 in earnings and 35 wins on the board, Stidham still leads the way at the top of the trainer’s standings, due in no small part to three fantastic victories this week.
On Monday, Jockamo’s Song proved true to the old adage “horses for courses” when gaining his third victory at Fair Grounds this meet alone (his only losses during this time coming at other tracks evidently not to his high standards). Quick as a lightening bolt out of the gates, Jockamo’s Song under red-hot Mitchell Murrill was never headed thereafter, and passed the post a neck too good for Michael Faber’s Dare to Dream stable.
Next up was Zipessa, who couldn’t have been more impressive when streaking to a wire-to-wire five-and-a quarter length victory under Mitchell Murrill – hair-raising stuff! This was Zipessa’s first run of the year–on only her fourth career start–and owners Empyrean Stables have a serious filly to go to war with this year.
Yesterday, Profluent did his part for the team when running out a cosy winner under Florent Geroux. A tough and honest individual, Profluent has been a good servant to owners DARRS, Inc. over the years, and judging on this evidence alone, there appear to be plenty more good days ahead to be had with him.
As to the weekend, Stidham’s seeking to consolidate his lead with the following entries:
Sylvia’s Warrior – Race 9, Allowance
Le Dimanche – Race 10, Maiden Special Weight
Estrella – Race 11, Maiden Claiming $10,000
Holiday Touch – Race 4, Claiming $15,000
Una Mac Cool – Race 8, Maiden Special Weight
Sashay – Race 8, Maiden Special Weight
