Leigh Court, and more…

Last weekend proved to be yet another one for the archives, when Speedway Stable’s Leigh Court won the Grade 3 Whimsical Stakes at Woodbine on Sunday.

Straight into the lead out of the gates under Florent Geroux, Leigh Court was never headed thereafter, gradually picking up the pace around the home turn before skipping clear down the stretch to win by a comfortable two length margin – another soft victory for a hard-as-nails champion.

This was Leigh Court’s second victory this year after clinching the Mardi Gras Stakes at Fair Grounds last time out, and Stidham, currently in France scouting for horses, was unsurprisingly delighted by the win:

“This was her second race off the shelf, and she ran right up to expectations. She showed brilliant speed, quickened off the turn and won with something in hand. I’m delighted for the owners, Speedway Stables, and for John Adger, their manager.”

We also have news of Jessica’s Star, being lined up for a potential crack at the Texas Mile at Lone Star Park early next month. “Jessica’s Star is training well, and should give a good account of himself next time he appears,” said Stidham.

He also said that the Stidham barn at Laurel Park is ready for occupation, and that a batch of horses are getting ready to make the trip there.

Here’s tomorrow’s runners:

Keeneland
Kingston Terrace – Race 3, Starter Allowance $16,000
Dynamo Ridge – Race 10, Maiden Claiming $30,000

Don’t forget to check back in again before the weekend, with news on the Giants Causeway Stakes – a race Stidham has won twice before…
