After a quiet week or two, the Stidham barn is back firing on all cylinders this weekend with batteries fully recharged and a number of stable big-guns locked, loaded and ready to roll.
Tomorrow, Jessica’s Star runs in the Texas Mile Stakes at Lone Star Park – a Grade III worth a cool $200,000. Jessica’s Star, who has run a couple of nice races in very competitive company already this year, is a 5-2 shot to prevail under jockey Mitchell Murrill. They face a total of nine other competitors.
Kentucky Derby day, Zipessa appears on the undercard at Churchill Downs, in the Grade II Churchill Distaff Turf Mile Stakes worth $300,000. Zipessa and her jockey, Florent Geroux, face eight other rivals, and her 20-1 odds on the Morning Line illustrate just how tough a task it is. Still, this three-time winner has raced only four times in her short career, and is open to a ton of improvement.
On Sunday, up at Woodbine, Leigh Court aims to follow up on her fantastic win in the Grade III Whimsical Stakes last time out when she lines up in the Grade III Hendrie Stakes, worth $150,000. Ridden by Florent Geroux, the victorious jockey in the Whimsical, Leigh Court faces a maximum six other rivals as she seeks her eighth career stake win, and her third this year…
