The Stidham stable enjoyed a nice winner this week, when Ducat, a two-year-old gelding by Exchange Rate owned by DARRS, made his first foray onto a racecourse of an afternoon a winning one under jockey Alex Birzer.
After a little scrimmaging at the start, Ducat took a nice position on the heels of the leaders before skipping away down the stretch to pass the post three-lengths to the good. This was a thoroughly professional performance for a first-timer, and he looks the sort to progress nicely over the months to come.
The Stidham stable could enjoy some black-type success this July 4 weekend should Zipessa do the business in the Grade III Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes, worth a tidy $200,000, at Parx Racing Monday. Zipessa has had a good 2016 thus far, winning on her seasonal debut, before putting in solid performances in a Grade II and a Grade III at Churchill Downs her following two races. This time, she’s a 3-1 shot on the early Morning line, and has the able services of jockey Florent Geroux in the saddle.
