Things are getting tight at the head of the trainer’s table at Arlington, with Mike Stidham still leading the way with $658,118 in the kitty.
But trainer Larry Rivelli (on $632,978) is breathing down his neck, and the race for top trainer at Chicago’s premier track is gearing up to be an exciting one.
It helps, then, that the Stidham stable is still in such rare form, and on Sunday, DARRS Inc’s Cannes broke his maiden in impressive fashion under Mitchell Murrill. Cannes, a three-year-old gelded son of Lonhro, was a five-time raced maiden before Sunday, but he powered away down the stretch to win by four-lengths.
Afterwards, Rivelli put in the winning bid for the horse.
