End of Arlington!

The summer meet at Arlington park has come to an end for another year, and while Mike Stidham finished runner-up in the trainer’s title, he was a runaway winner when it came to prize-money earned.

Stidham finished the meet with $1,094,095 in the kitty. Arlington’s Champion Trainer, Larry Rivelli, had nearly $200,000 less. But, alas, the title is decided by wins and not prize money.

“We’re delighted with the results of the meet, where quality rather than quantity prevailed,” said Stidham.

“We want to thank the owners for providing us with such high quality horses, and I want to thank personally all of the staff, without who, none of this would have been possible – they did a great job.”

With Arlington poised to close their doors once again, the Stidham stable is on the move. There are already 20 horses stabled at Churchill Downs. Roughly 40 horses will head to Keeneland, while a good number are already on their way to Fair Grounds in anticipation of their winter meet.

Here’s a bullet-point look ahead to possible future engagements:

– Zipessa is an expected runner in this weekend’s GI Rodeo Drive Stakes at Santa Anita

– Secret Someone could line up in the GI First Lady Stakes at keeneland

– Arlington-Washington Lassie Stakes winner Diadura will work on the dirt at Keeneland. How she goes will dictate whether she heads for the GI Alcibiades Stakes on the dirt, or the GIII Jessamine Stakes on the grass

Looking back, it was another good weekend for the barn. DARRS Inc.’s Rapid Rhythm won Saturday’s $60,000 Oakley for Virginia-bred female turf sprinters at Laurel Park, under a superbly times Trevor McCarthy ride.

Over at Arlington Park, Storming the Beach proved a fitting winner on the last day of the meet for owner-breeder Richard Duchossois’ Hill ‘N Dale Farm. Richard Duchossois is, of course, the owner of the Chicago track.

Then, Speedway Stables’ Acapella produced a virtuoso performance at Belterra Park to win by a staggering 16 lengths. Jockey Antioco Murgia surely can’t have ridden an easier winner than in this three-year-old daughter of Majestic Warrior.

Here’s this week’s entries:
