Zippy Zipessa going for GI Gold!

During a glittering card featuring some fantastic races and some fantastic horses at Santa Anita today, Stidham’s Zipessa lines up as favorite in the Grade I Rodeo Drive Stakes.

Empyrean Stables’ four-year-old daughter of City Zip has already won the Grade III Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes this season, and finished third last time out in the Grade I Beverly D Stakes.

In the Rodeo Drive, a $300,000 race over one and one fourth miles on the turf, Zipessa will face a maximum of 12 rivals. She’s drawn 12 under jockey Florent Geroux, and word from the stable is that she’s in flying form going into the race – a potential stepping stone for the Breeders’ Cup.
