Over for another year…

Taking into account the equine herpes issues that have bedeviled the Stidham stable this Fair Grounds winter meet (when many of the horses were quarantined, unable to run for some five weeks), the barn has wrapped up the meeting in incredible fashion!

When the curtain went down yesterday afternoon, Stidham was in fourth place on the trainer’s standings, with $988,640 in the kitty and 32 wins on the board. If Stidham hadn’t been sidelined for such a long period of the meet, a very good case could be made to suggest that he would have gone very close to regaining the training title he won last year.

And let’s not forget the many unforgettable performances from some seriously talented stable stars this winter.

Stallion Enterprises’ Stallion Heiress won the Allen Black Cat LaCombe Memorial Stakes and Joseph E. Spanky Broussard Memorial Overnight Stakes to mark herself out as one of the most exciting young fillies in training at the moment.

Robert Evans’ Rapid Rhythm also made it a Fair Grounds big race double when winning the Mardi Gras Stakes as well as the Battle of New Orleans Stakes.

While DARRS Inc’s Proforma stamped himself a young horse fast on the improve with a scintillating performance in the Sugar Bowl Stakes.

“I couldn’t achieved what I was able to achieve without the amazing support from the best owners you could ever hope to have on your side, and the best staff anywhere in the country,” said Stidham, after the meet had wrapped up. “I’ve got one helluva team behind me.”

“I know it’s been a tough few months for everyone concerned, but when we emerged from the quarantine, we flew out of the gates, and the results from the past few weeks suggest that we could have gone close to retaining our training crown had we enjoyed a clear run.”

“Still, I’m absolutely delighted with how the stable performed in the end. We’ve got some serious performers to go to war with over the summer, and I just can’t wait to show everybody what we’re made of. I’m hopeful we’re headed for one of our best years yet.”

Here’s a look at the week’s entries:
