Another year over and another meet wrapped, it’s with a fond farewell that the Stidham stable bids adieu to Fair Grounds once again…
…but what a Winter meet this has been! Stidham finishes in 5th on the trainer’s table, with nearly $1 million in the kitty, and 22 wins on the table. His haul was topped by the two graded stakes victories of Synchrony, who claimed the G2 Muniz Memorial Handicap and the G3 Fair Grounds Handicap since the turn of the year.
“It’s always a shame when we leave here in the Spring,” said Stidham. “The horses have all ran out of their skins, the staff have all worked exceptionally hard, the owners have been superstars, and it’s been very satisfying the great run of success we’ve enjoyed these past few months.
“Long may it continue!” Stidham added.
As to the future, Stidham has started to ship horses to Fair Hill, in Maryland. Like every year, he’ll maintain a string at Keeneland for their brief Spring carnival, and he’ll also keep a small string this Summer at Arlington.
“It’s a very exciting time,” said Stidham. “The two-year-olds are just about to start coming in, and we’ve sent a talented group of horses to Keeneland in what is always a competitive few weeks.”
Here’s a look at what a couple of the Stidham stable stars have in store in the upcoming weeks:
Supreme Aura – dropping back in trip in the $150,000 Bachelor Stakes at Oaklawn Park on April 12.
Synchrony – headed to Churchill Downs on Derby day for the $500,000 Old Forester Turf Classic.
And finally, here’s a nod to this weekend’s stable winner, Meilleur, who. at Tampa Bay, claimed his third victory this year alone for DARRS Inc.
