Yesterday at Arlington, Gary Davidson’s English Laughter showed himself to be a young colt with no inconsiderable potential, overcoming green-ness (and a terrible start) to win a shade cosily under Mitchell Murrill on his racecourse debut.
This English Channel 2-year-old has a serious future ahead of him. In fact, he’s one of any number of talented young horses in the Stidham barn right now, many of which will be tested a little more aggressively before the year’s out. Sure is an exciting time for the barn.
And now for the weekend entries, starting with the big guns.
At Woodbine tomorrow, the dual stakes-winning Hallie Belle is drawn 8 of 8 in the GII Canadian Stakes, worth a cool $250,000. Ridden by Eurico Rosa Da Silva, Hallie Belle is a 6-1 shot to claim her first graded stakes.
On Monday at Presque Isle Downs, Noted and Quoted will have her second race for the stable in the $400,000 GII Presque Isle Downs Masters Stakes. Drawn 11 of 12, and with Joe Bravo in the saddle, Noted and Quoted is a 30-1 shot. A former GI winner, she’s definitely got the talent to win a race of this nature. The question is, can she recapture that form after nearly a year off and only one run under her belt.
Now for the rest of the weekend entries:
Nifty Nellie – Race 10, Claiming $12,500
Canny – Race 8, Claiming $35,000
San Elijo – Race 3, Allowance
