Mike Stidham runs a brace of runners each of the next three days, including two of his stable’s standard bearers Saturday, both of whom are set to contest a couple of minor stakes.
Ground Transport gets the ball rolling when he lines up in the $75,000 Tenacious Handicap over one and one sixteenth miles. Ground Transport has been highly tried since winning a couple of minor races earlier on in the year, and while he hasn’t managed to add to his win tally since, he ran a highly respectable second last time out at Fair Grounds. On Saturday, he faces a field of eight, Mark Guidry rides.
Next up is the old war horse himself, Hammers Terror, who lines up in the Buddy Diliberto Memorial Handicap – another race run over one and one sixteenth miles and worth $75,000. Hammers Terror has enjoyed a fruitful year thus far, and he notched another stake victory onto the bedpost when he landed the Brooks Fields Stakes in June. On Saturday, he faces a packed field of 12, and Robbie Albarado takes the mount.
On Sunday, Stidham fields Brown Almighty and Love Blind in a couple of allowance races, while on Monday, it’s the turn of Notte D’Oro and La Bruna Forte to take center stage.
Looking back over the week, Istanford showed a great attitude to land her second win Thursday out of only three career starts. Istanford was always well positioned, and all jockey James Graham had to do was angle her out before coasting to a clear cut 2 3/4 length victory. Don’t be surprised to see this daughter of Istan upped in class again for her next outing.
Check back in again the start of next week for all the news of the weekend runners.
