Looking ahead at the weekend and Mike Stidham has a flurry of runners spread between Fair Grounds and Oaklawn Park, with the possibility of two runners in stakes races on Saturday.
Istanford could be Stidham’s Saturday star when she contests the Silverbulletday Stakes – a $125,000 race for three-year-old fillies. The field is small but select, only six are scheduled to go to post, and Dallas Stewart’s filly, Unbridled Forever, is the likely favorite. Nevertheless, Istanford looks to hold serious claims. This thrice raced daughter of Istan has won twice already, and her last time out romp to victory shows that she’s in great heart at present. James Graham rides.
Looking at Stidham’s other entries over the weekend, on Friday, Mandola is his sole runner. On Saturday, Green Secret and Rock on This are entered on the undercard, while Masquerade is on the also-eligible list for the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Handicap – a $75,000 stake for fillies and mares four-years-old and up. On Sunday, Is it True Ma’am takes to the track over at Oaklawn Park, while back at Fair Grounds, Moon Song, a three-year-old colt by Elusive Quality, makes his eagerly awaited debut.
Worth a mention is Liz Pendens’ sterling second in the optional claimer at Fair Grounds yesterday after a bruising duel down the straight. Stidham’s filly is tougher than Arnie and she doesn’t know how to run a bad race – she looks sure to add to her win tally before the current meet at Fair Grounds ends.
Check back in again next week for all the news of the weekend runners.
