Masquerade so nearly the belle of the ball

Masquerade very nearly registered her first black type victory when she finished an honorable second in the Marie G. Krantz Memorial Handicap at Fair Grounds over the weekend.

Lightening out of the gates, Masquerade was quickly at the head of the field, only relinquishing the lead at the furlong marker before knuckling down under Florien Geroux to finish well clear of the remainder of the field. In only three starts for Stidham, this five-year-old daughter of Silent Name has shown rapid improvement, amassing two wins and a second in stake company to illustrate that she’s still on the ascent.

Elsewhere over the weekend, Green Secret and Rock On This both ran excellent races without quite hitting the bullseye. Green Secret was especially unlucky – after making relentless headway down the straight, he was denied victory by a head.

Stidham looks to have a busy week ahead. Today, Indisputable runs at Oaklawn Park, while Song To You, Notte d’Oro and Cautiouslyoptimstc are scheduled to run at Fair Grounds. Thursday, it’s the turn of Follow The Kitten, Love Blind, Top Cool and Abundantly Clear, while on Friday, Ground Transport and What Bunker fly the Stidham flag.

Check back in again later this week for a review of the week’s action, and a look ahead to the weekend runners.
