Kelly's defense impenetrable

A victory for In Kelly’s Defense Saturday proved the highlight of another solid weekend of action for the Stidham stable.

In typical Stidham fashion, jockey James Graham jumped In Kelly’s Defense smart out of the gates, positioning her on the heels of the leader, Love My Life, before making his move at the top of the stretch. Love My life, however, was far from finished, battling bravely back in the final furlong to reclaim the lead – a sustained duel climaxing in a photo-finish won by Stidham’s charge by a sliver of a nose. This was a second victory for In Kelly’s Defense, and now this four-year-old filly by First Defense has regained the winning thread, she looks nailed-on to win again at this meet.

Of Stidham’s other runners, Gleam of Hope and Jenny June both posted third-place finishes on Friday, with the latter named showing enough to suggest that she will soon be shrugging off the monkey of a maiden victory.

Looking ahead to the week’s action, Stidham has entered Kids Rule and Bayou St John on the Thursday, while Brown Almighty and Blue Y Gold are scheduled to run on Friday.

Check back in again later this week for a look at the weekend action.
