Compared to his usual weekend cavalcade, Mike Stidham has a relatively light few days ahead of him with five horses scheduled to run between now and Sunday, including one to keep an eye on: the racecourse bow of a potentially exciting Bernadini filly.
Today, three go to post: Rock on This, Song to You and Love Blind. On Sunday it’s the turn of E.M. Maximus and Partyinslowmotion. The former is seeking a three-timer at the meet. The latter is making her racecourse debut, and if her breeding is any accurate guide (by Bernadini out of a duel-winning Woodman mare), then she’s one to keep an eagle-eye on.
Yesterday saw the racecourse debut of another exciting young filly, Jessica’s Star, who went down in a blaze of glory to lose out by only a head. Like all Stidham debutants, Jessica’s Star knew her job better than Governor Christie knows how to annoy drivers: she was lickety-split out of the gates and pressed the leader and eventual winner all the way. Jessica’s Star gained a narrow advantage down the stretch, only to be denied by the slimmest of margins at the wire, jockey Shaun Bridgmohan on board.
Stidham looks to be garnering a veritable hareem of exciting young fillies at present. Check back in again early next week to see if he’s added another young lady to that squad.
