With Fair Grounds done and dusted for another year, the band wagon rolls onto Keeneland where Mike Stidham has a trifecta of runners this weekend, including one of his more exciting young fillies, Istanford, in one of Keeneland’s signature races.
When Istanford lines up in the $500,000 Central Bank Ashland Stakes, a race for three-year-old fillies over one and one sixteenth miles, it will be her first venture into Grade I company. She faces a total of 13 rivals, including early morning line favorites, Room Service and Candy Kitty. A daughter of Istan, Istanford has already racked up a couple of wins in her five race career. And while the competition Saturday is by far the toughest she has ever faced, her second last time out in the Grade III Florida Oaks indicates that’s she’s very much on the upgrade. Jockey Joseph Rocco Jr. takes the mount.
Elsewhere at Keeneland, Stidham sends out Follow the Kitten today, and Love Blind on the Ashland supporting card.
Check back in again early next week for a recap of the weekend’s action.
