There are three constants to the start to this years Arlington Park meet: the sun continues to glitter over the racetrack, the flowers in the infield are still daubed in a riot of color, and Mike Stidham maintains his extraordinarily rich vein of form after another successful week – an omen that bodes well for the impeding weekend action.
Stellaris made it two from three when she obliterated her rivals in yesterday’s optional allowance. Sat with patiently on the heels of the leaders until the top of the stretch, when jockey James Graham pressed the button, the nearby substation would have experienced a surge in voltage, so electric was the response. They passed the post a full 7 3/4 lengths ahead of the poor second-finishing straggler.
This three-year-old daughter of Harlan’s Holiday is improving faster than a cheetah with a flaming tail, and a step up in class is surely on the cards.
The day prior, Partyinslowmotion was denied victory by a neck after a thrilling three-way duel down the stretch. This performance was arguably her best to date, and it’s surely a matter of when, not if, she loses her maiden tag.
Looking ahead to this afternoon’s action, Stidham has Voluptuous, Brown Almighty and Betterthandiamonds entered. Tomorrow it’s the turn of Zubi Zubi Zu and Sapphire Breeze, while Blue Y Gold holds an engagement over at Churchill Downs. On Sunday at Arlington, Hit Girl is Stidham’s sole representative.
Check back in again next week for a round up of the weekend action.
