Every Way just pipped for stake success

Every Way’s narrow eclipse in the Minnesota H.B.P.A. Distaff Stakes at Canterbury Park epitomized a frustrating weekend for Mike Stidham, with a number of his horses producing fine performances without quite making the winners circle.

After stalking the leaders for much of the journey, Every Way looked nailed for victory as she surged down the stretch and into the lead under jockey James Graham. But Gold Medal Dancer proved to be every bit as tough as Stidham’s invader. Having looked held, Gold Medal Dancer fought back in the shadow of the wire to claim victory by a head.

This crushing defeat was Every Way’s seventh stakes place throughout an admirable career. But she couldn’t be in any greater heart at present, and surely, her turn to shine is just around the corner.

Elsewhere, Follow the Kitten ran a fine race in defeat in a competitive allowance at Arlington, showing a willing attitude without quite matching the pace of the leading pair.

Stidham has entered Champagneforpeace and Local One Thirty at Arlington on Thursday, and Redhot Fillypepper, Go Doug Go and E.M. Maximus at the same venue Friday.

Check back in again later this week for a look ahead to the weekend action.
