This weekend, two of Mike Stidham’s most exciting young fillies are gunning for stake race glory, one of whom is Istanford, fresh from her scintillating victory in the Grade III Arlington Classic last time out.
On Saturday, Istanford lines up in the Grade III Regret Stakes at Churchill Downs – a turf race over one and one eighth miles, and worth $100,000. Owned by Ike and Dawn Thrash and Sam and Janet Alley, Istanford faces a maximum of nine rivals, but she is expected to go off one of the favorites alongside Michael Matz’s A Little Bit Sassy. James Graham takes the mount.
A day later, Stellaris bids for her first sweet taste of black type in the Northbound Pride Oaks at Canterbury Park – a turf race over a mile, and worth $75,000. Stellaris, owned by Stidham in partnership with Tom Van Meter, faces a bloated field of 13, but because of the stunning impression she made when winning last time out, she’s the early morning line favorite. Again, jockey James Graham takes the mount.
Of Stidham’s other entries, today he runs Redhot Filly Pepper, Go Doug Go and E.M. Maximus at Arlington, while Blue Y Gold leads the charge at Indiana Grand Racecourse.
Check back in again early next week for a roundup of the weekend action.
