Mike Stidham is poised for a busy weekend across the country, and his headline act is I Dazzle, who is set to line up in the Opelousas Stakes at Evangeline Downs Saturday.
I Dazzle is one of 12 horses scheduled to run in the turf race over one mile and one sixteenth. Stidham’s runner faces a tough task, however. The field may be large but they’re an evenly talented bunch. She’s 8/1 on the early morning line, and jockey Diego Saenz takes the mount.
As usual, Stidham has an armful of runners at Arlington. Today, Abundantly Clear, Voluptuous and George’s Peach form a trident of runners, while Song to You and Love Blind go to war on Saturday. Helen Kathleen is Stidham’s sole representative at Churchill Downs today.
A special mention must go to Zubi Zubi Zu, who went down all guns ablazing in defeat at Arlington yesterday. Owned by Christine and Phil Hatfield, Zubi Zubi Zu came from the back to swoop down the stretch, only to miss out on victory by a neck in a competitive allowance. Zubi Zubi Zu, a three-year-old by Any Given Saturday, has only raced five times, and she has ample opportunity for recompense.
Check back in again early next week for a roundup of the weekend action.
