Suffolk Downs superstar!
The summer meet at Suffolk Downs this year ended with none other than Mike Stidham at the head of affairs in the race for the trainer’s title, with eight wins on the board and $195,925 in the kitty!
“So much of this title is due to the unbeatable team I’ve got behind me,” said the typically self-effacing Stidham. “Every single member works incredibly hard, and I realize that I wouldn’t be winning these trainer’s titles were it not for their tireless work. That, and I’ve got the best bunch of owners in the business. What can I say – I’m a lucky, lucky guy!”
Aside from winning the trainer’s title at Suffolk Downs, Stidham had a great weekend all round, starting with a scintillating debut winning performance by Mark Breen’s 2-year-old Union Rags filly, Saguaro Row, at Laurel Park Saturday.
After a bit of a shaky start, Saguaro Row soon found her footing under Forest Boyce, and powered away from the field down the stretch to win by nearly five lengths in the style of a very nice performer indeed!
Over at Suffolk Downs, Godolphin’s Larkin had it a little tougher to prevail under Luis Quinones. But this 3-year-old daughter of Bernardini has now won two from four, and is clearly very talented.
On Sunday at Suffolk Downs, JJJ Thoroughbred Racing’s Set of J’s showed that at the age of six, he’s no back number, running away from the field under Rosario Montanez to win by nearly five lengths!
