Weekend update

Two winners yesterday means the Stidham stable is on a roll headed into the weekend, where Rapid Rhythm and One Last Shot are going to war in a couple of Fair Grounds stake races.

First off, Iquique broke her maiden for owner Jeffery Yingling in tenacious fashion at Fair Grounds, knuckling down under Joe Bravo to prevail by a nose. With this good confidence booster under her belt, Iquique has more to offer connections.

Over at Tampa Bay, the two-year-old Meilleur also broke his maiden for DARRS Inc, quickening away from the field down the stretch to win by a comfortable four lengths. Like Iquique, Meilleur is one for the future.

And now for the weekend.

The admirable One Last Shot is one of eight to go to post in the $50,000 Richard Scherer Memorial Stakes – a 5 1/2 furlong race on the turf. Jack Gilligan takes the mount on the 6-1 shot.

Later on the card, Rapid Rhythm is one of ten to line up in the second division of the $50,000 Richard Scherer Memorial Stakes. Having won a couple of stake races at Fair Grounds last winter, Rapid Rhythm clearly loves the course, and Shaun Bridgmohan rides the 4-1 shot today.
