Started with a bang!
The winter meet at Fair Grounds is always a fruitful one for the Stidham stable, and by the looks of things, judging by the stunning weekend results (three winners on the Saturday!), the current meeting at the Louisiana track will be no exception!
Star of the show Saturday was undoubtedly Rapid Rhythm, the doughty five-year-old mare owned by Robert Evans, who was given a peach of a ride by Shaun Bridgmohan to win the second division of the $50,000 Richard Scherer Memorial Stakes.
Rapid Rhythm won a couple of stakes at Fair Grounds last year (the Mardi Gras Stakes and Battle of New Orleans Stakes), so, she clearly loves the track. And with a host of suitable races waiting for her over the next few months, few would bet against her adding to her Fair Grounds stake race haul once again.
But Rapid Rhythm was only one of three Stidham horses to prevail on Saturday. Princess Lu Lu got the ball rolling for owners Stallionaire Enterprises. She was always handily placed by jockey Robby Albarado before she ground out a handy half-length victory to make it career win number two after a host of placed efforts.
Owner Robert Evans enjoyed win number two on Saturday when Elandess showed guts aplenty to eek out a head victory under Robby Albarado. This three-year-old daughter of Scat Daddy has shown plenty of talent throughout her career, and with this nice confidence booster under her belt, Elandess can follow up again.
