What a stunning couple of days this has been for the Stidham stable, with an amazing SEVEN winners over the course of the weekend, including FOUR stakes victories to cap it all off!
So, let’s start with the big race winners, led by Rick Kanter’s Doc Boy in the $100,000 Thoroughbred Aftercare Alliance Kitten’s Joy Stakes at Colonial Downs on Saturday. Under a fine Feargal Lynch ride, Doc Boy broke slowly, but flew home to land the prize in stylish fashion, illustrating that this 2-year-old son of Into Mischief has a big future ahead of him.
Next up was Godolphin’s Carnival Colors in the $150,000 Fasig-Tipton Virginia Oaks, who absolutely dominated proceedings. Forest Boyce rode the 3-year-old daughter of Distorted Humor, and she’s now an extremely valuable breeding proposition with this stake victory under her belt.
Earlier in the card, Marshall Law looked smart on his first run in the States, winning nicely under Trevor McCarthy. Magic Cap Stables’ Irish import had a lot in hand against a tidy field.
Then, yesterday came the amazing across-the-card four-timer!
Powell got the ball rolling in the $100,000 Ontario Jockey Club Stakes at Woodbine. DARRS Inc’s son of Munnings showed real guts to land his first stakes victory under Rafael Hernandez.
Over at Monmouth Park, Godolphin’s Micheline broke her maiden in the best possible manner under Nik Juarez, winning the $106,000 Sorority Stakes. This twice-raced daughter of Bernardini sure looks smart!
Then, at Arlington Park, Godolphin’s Pixelate shrugged the maiden monkey off his back under Mitchell Murrill, while Americandy claimed his second career win for owners Signal Hill Farms under Carlos Marquez.
“This really has been a weekend to remember,” said Stidham, reflecting on the last couple of days. “I know I always say it, but I really mean it – none of this would be possible without the extraordinary help I receive from my staff, from my assistant Hilary, and from what I regard as the best group of owners any trainer could hope to have. Weekends like this are what it’s all about.”
