At Belmont Park today, Pixelate is one of eight to line up in the G1 $250,000 Belmont Derby Invitational Stakes, in a bid to follow-up on his rollicking G2 win last time. But before we take a look at his chances, let’s take a look at a brace of wins this week for the barn.
At Belterra Park on Thursday, Speedway Stables’ Rollick broke her maiden in fine fashion, pulling more than three lengths clear under jockey John McKee. This win will have enhanced the daughter of Union Rags’s paddock value by no small margin.
At Belmont Park the same day, Michael Ryan’s Kingman gelding Made My Day similarly broke his maiden, this time in determined fashion, knuckling out a head victory under Javier Castellano. This ex-European runner looks just the sort to do well Stateside.
And now to today, and Pixelate’s chances in the G1 Belmont Derby. Drawn 6 of 8 in the turf race over 1 and 1/4 miles, Pixelate is looking to build upon his win in the G2 Del Mar Derby last time out. Jose Lezcano takes the mount on the 5-1 shot on the Morning Line.
