Marathon update
In our marathon update today, we’re going to take a look back over a bevvy of lovely winners this week, and then forward to a host of tasty weekend action. Enjoy!
At Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday, Phoenix Thoroughbred’s Contraflow, a Street Sense gelding, made a second career start a winning one, streaking clear under Hector Diaz.
A few races later at the same track, Donald Dizney’s highly-tried Federal Case won his first race in a long while when proving too good under Diaz. This was a nice training performance from the big man.
Today in Florida, Phoenix Thoroughbred’s Branco Maria breezed to a second career victory under a red-hot Diaz, making it a good week for the owners.
And now for the weekend!
Tomorrow at Fair Grounds, the exciting Tate is drawn 2 of 7 in the $75,000 Sugar Bowl Stakes, a six furlong sprint. With Angel Suarez on board, Tate is a 4-1 shot on the Morning Line.
In race 7, the $75,000 Richard R. Scherer Memorial Stakes, a 5 1/2 furlong turf sprint, Embolden is drawn 8 of 11. Suarez takes the ride on the 15-1 shot, who won the Punch Line Stakes last time out.
Two races later, Militiaman is drawn 9 of 11 in the $75,000 Buddy Diliberto Memorial Stakes, a turf race over 1 and 1/16th miles. The man Suarez once again is in the saddle on this 15-1 shot.
