Tis’ the time of year when eyes are turned towards the run for the roses, and the ever increasing crescendo culminating with that first Saturday in May.
Not one to be left out of the conversation, the Stidham stable is testing the mettle of Proxy, one of its potential Derby contenders tomorrow in the $400,000 G2 Risen Star Stakes at Fair Grounds.
Second last time out in the G3 Lecomte Stakes at the same track, Proxy once again faces the winner of that contest, Midnight Bourbon. But this time, the Godolphin runner enjoys the able services of Johnny Velazquez in the saddle, no mean debut by any margin.
Drawn 2 of 13 in this 1 1/8th mile contest, Proxy is an 8-1 shot on the Morning Line.
