Wallypop a winner!

The wonderfully named Wallypop made a racecourse debut a winning one Saturday at Tampa Bay Downs.

Owned by Gary Logsdon, Wallypop showed plenty of zip under Manny Jimenez, always near the head of affairs before showing a great attitude to knuckle out a neck victory. This 3-year-old son of Chitu will have learned a great deal from that experience, and is one to watch out for next time.

While he wasn’t a winner on Saturday, there was a lot to admire about Proxy’s second place finish in the G2 Risen Star Stakes. Godolphin’s homebred showed that he’s still very much on the improve when finishing well for the runner-up spot, earning some useful Derby points in the process. One thing’s for sure, the trainer will place him well for his next start, wherever that might be.
