Back for more G1 glory?
The Dubai World Cup winning team of Mike Stidham, Luis Saez and superstar owners Godolphin are back for more top-flight glory when they send their recent G2 scorer Micheline to Keeneland tomorrow for the G1 Jenny Wiley Stakes.
But before we take a look at her prospects, let’s give On the Muscle a pat on the back for a thoroughly well-deserved first victory today at Aqueduct for owners Thad Ackel and Scott Sahadi. Given a peach of a ride by jockey Kendrick Carmouche, On the Muscle squeaked out a fine win, just a nose between him and the runner-up at the line.
Let’s hope the good fortune continues this weekend, when Micheline lines up on the inside of six runners in the $300,000 G1 Coolmore Jenny Wiley Stakes, over 1 and 1/16th miles on the turf. A fine winner on her seasonal debut in the G2 Hillsborough Stakes at Tampa Bay last time out, Micheline is a 2-1 shot to prevail under Saez.
One race earlier at Keeneland, potential Derby hope Proxy is looking to secure his ticket to Churchill Downs in the G3 Stonestreet Lexington Stakes, over 1 and 1/16th miles. Proxy is multiple graded-stakes placed already, and Stidham has found a good spot for the son of Tapit. Drawn 7 of 10, he’s a 6-5 shot to prevail under Johnny Velazquez.
