Big Weekend!

There’s a mouthwatering weekend of action ahead of us, with big race runners from the Stidham stable at Ellis Park, with Gershwin contesting the KY Downs TVG Preview Dueling Grounds Derby, and at Del Mar, with Princess Grace going for gold in the G2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap.

But first, let’s take a look at a lovely winner for the stable at Colonial Downs Monday, with DARRS Inc’s Aurum breaking her maiden impressively at the first time of asking.

Given a confident ride by Sheldon Russell, Aurum, a 3-year-old daughter of Munnings, soon asserted herself when sent to the front down the stretch, and won by a comfortable 2 lengths. Just the type Mike does so well with, Aurum will be one to watch next time out.

Tomorrow at Ellis Park, Gershwin is drawn 7 of 7 in the $100,000 KY Downs TVG Preview Dueling Grounds Derby, a 1 and 1/8th turf race. A talented performer with a G3 victory next to his name already, Gershwin is a 5-2 shot to grab some more valuable black type, this time under Mitchell Murrill.

Over in California, Princess Grace takes another step up the ladder when drawn 8 of 10 in the $200,000 G2 Yellow Ribbon Handicap, a turf contest over 1 and 1/16th miles. With only five races under her belt, Princess Grace has already won a brace of graded stakes, and this time, with Kent Desormeaux on board, she’s an 8-1 shot to win her hardest task to date.

Exciting times indeed!
