Weekend Update!
After Pixelate’s barnstorming success in the G3 Mint Million Stakes at Kentucky Downs earlier this week, the Stidham stable is readying for more big race success this weekend!
And the form of the barn couldn’t be any hotter.
On Wednesday at Penn National, Phoenix Ladies Syndicate’s Wild America broke her maiden in freaky fashion, pulverising the field by nearly ten lengths having led for most of the way under Julio Hernandez. This 3-year-old daughter of American Pharaoh has speed to burn – watch out for when she reappears.
Yesterday at Laurel Park, Godolphin’s Kit Keller had to work a little harder to break her duck, showing pluck aplenty under Charlie Marquez to prevail by 3/4 of a length. In all fairness to this 2-year-old daughter of Ghostzapper, this was her racecourse debut, and, given the trainer’s tremendous record with this type of filly, expect to see an even more polished performance next time out.
As for tomorrow, the fast improving Princess Grace is bidding for more graded stakes gold when lining up in the $750,000 Gr. 3 Kentucky Downs Ladies Turf Stakes, a mile turf contest. Drawn 2 of 9 and ridden by Florent Geroux, Princess Grace is a 2-1 shot on the Morning Line to add this to her wins this year in the Gr. 2 Yellow Ribbon Stakes and the Gr. 3 Dr. James Penny Memorial Stakes.
One day later at the same track, mighty Micheline is also looking to enhance her already admirable record when drawn 3 of 12 in the $550,000 Kentucky Downs Ladies Marathon Stakes, a turf context over 1 5/16th miles. With Joel Rosario on board, Micheline is a 7-2 shot to add this race to a win earlier this year in the G2 Hillsborough Stakes.
